Welcome to my new blog – “Loath to Close … Still!” – which is debuting on March 4, 2015, the 150th anniversary of President Abraham Lincoln’s Second Inaugural Address. Of course, Lincoln’s celebrated phrase “I am loath to close …”, part of his appeal to avert civil war, doesn’t come from his Second Inaugural Address, but rather from his first, four years previous, also on March 4.
I am a history buff and an admirer of Lincoln. Since the year 2000, I have also done portrayals of “Mr. Lincoln” in schools, churches, community events, etc. For more on that, see my website: www.mrlincoln.com.
The purpose of this blog is simply to encourage others to reflect upon and learn from President Lincoln’s life and legacy, as I myself have done. That he was “loath to close”, we can be thankful, for there is much we can learn from the inspirational and insightful words of his speeches and writings.
